The Real Secret to Healthy Weight Loss...

A Clinical Review of Enjoying Weight Loss by Michael Lovitch...

TQ The Skinny on Diets...

So, how are we going to lose all this weight?

And add all those years of life?

Certainly not by asking you to go on a fad diet or take pills!

When we were initially searching for an effective way to help people lose weight both safely and naturally, we focused on a very important fact. And that is that the research clearly shows that the diet you choose is not all that important, what is important is that you follow a plan.

Investigators from Tufts-New England Medical Center (Journal of the American Medical Association, January 2005) have determined in a study of four popular diets that the key to successful weight loss is not the diet itself, but actually FOLLOWING THE DIET!

In this one-year study of 160 overweight adults, the researchers split people into four diet groups:

  • Weight Watchers (low calorie)

  • The Zone Diet (low glycemic index)

  • The Ornish Diet (low fat)

  • The Atkins Diet (low carb)
Here's what they learned: ALL of these diets WORKED when the participants in the study followed them.

The problem is that less than one in four were able to stay on their given diet for just this one year!

So instead of looking for that "PERFECT DIET," it makes a lot more sense to find a safe way to ADHERE to your diet.

TQ The Clear Choice For Diet Adherence...

What was also clear was that a medical technique called hypnosis seemed to be the most effective modality for diet and exercise adherence.

A Little Research...

Research indicates that medical hypnosis supports weight loss, and more importantly, supports long term weight loss. There are two studies that come to mind:

Study One:

The first study, published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology, divided 109 people into two groups for a 9 week study. The first group were treated with changes in diet and exercise habits (the only way to lose weight) without the addition of hypnosis.

The second group was given the same diet and exercise treatment and was also given hypnosis for reinforcement.

After 9 weeks, not surprisingly, both groups lost weight due to the changes in diet and exercise while under supervision.

What happened after the 8 month and 2-year follow-ups might surprise you.

The group that did not have hypnosis did not lose anymore weight and in fact most gained most of their weight back.

The hypnosis group, however, continued to lose weight during both intervals and the studies showed that far more people in the hypnosis group met their long term weight loss goals.

The take home is that the hypnosis group continued the eating and exercise habits learned in the experiment while the non-hypnosis group did not.

There is no magic pill for weight loss and you simply have to follow a healthy eating and exercise plan -- from this study, I believe it is clear that hypnosis supports diet and exercise adherence.

Study Two:

The second study, published in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, investigated the effects of hypnosis in weight loss for 60 females at least 20% overweight and not involved in other treatment. The researchers interviewed each participant this time about their family background, educational background, and their belief as to their hypnotizability.

The group was split into hypnosis and non hypnosis groups with both groups being given weight loss behavioral treatments and counseling. The results were very interesting.

The group using hypnosis lost an average of 17 pounds at the 6 month follow up. The group that did not receive hypnosis only lost a half of a pound. They also found that "hypnotizability" and social and educational backgrounds had nothing to do with the results.

This shows that people using hypnosis were losing over 30 times the amount of weight over the long term (which is what is important).

TQ Finding the Right Hypnosis Program...

The next step in our process after confirming hypnosis is a verified solution to an issue is to secure the absolute best psychologist for the task. This involves talking to the major associations and research hospitals.

We narrowed it down to 15 candidates and then started our due diligence. In this case, the front runner from the beginning was Dr. Roberta Temes.

Dr. Temes is an adjunct professor in the department of Psychiatry at the SUNY Health Science Center in Brooklyn, NY. She is the editor of the first hypnosis text book used in medical schools, and most importantly had an incredible track record in helping people with weight loss issues.
