"There are only 3 colors, 10 digits, and 7 notes; its what we do with them that's important."

Got A Second?
Drop-in visits are hard to resist. They can, however, be a major time waster. The average drop-in visit lasts longer than it should, and it may take you even longer to resume your concentration once the visit is over.
To visit or not to visit, that is the question. Your priorities are the answer.
Today's Idea For Action is from the TQ Optimize Color: Prevent Interruptions BEFORE They Occur.
Print this page. Get out a pen. Better, Sign In and Answer Online.
Now, ask yourself the following three questions:
- Because you want to make every minute count, how will you reschedule these visits?
- What percentage of your "drop-ins" are productive?
- Some visits are very important; some aren't. Do you know how to determine one from the other?
So, Just How Committed to High Achievement Are You?
A high commitment (9F rated 8 or better) suggests you are someone who refuses to be interrupted, so you can concentrate on more important tasks. Your first task of the day is to establish a specific set of objectives. Your second task is clearing your time in advance, by thinking through all the things that others may need from you. You then provide the stuff they need -- up front -- so you won't be interrupted later. This one action helps you complete high payoff priorities -- without the frustration of being constantly pulled off track.
A lack of commitment suggests interruptions consistently frustrate your attempts to adhere to your schedule. Interruptions can waste an entire day -- when nothing on your list gets started -- much less finished. Your door is always open to visitors, so you can easily be pulled off track from your intended objective. Sometimes the diversions are simply more fun than your current task. Sometimes your priorities are sacrificed to someone else's needs. Sometimes, it's just poor planning. Sometimes there's no good excuse.
What happens when you do TQ Factor 9F more frequently?
You have more power. You get more done each day, because you prevent interruptions before they begin.
You accumulate performance positives like "Timely, Concentrated and Orderly" -- immediately moving you towards the results you expect.
What happens when you fail to consistently do TQ Factor 9F?
You have less power. You get less and less done every time you're interrupted.
Negatives like "Disrupted, Delayed and Distracted" start to take their toll on your performance -- quickly moving you away from the success you want.
