QBQ! The Question Behind the Question
John G. Miller

Ever heard (or asked) questions like these?

  • "Why do we have to go through all this change?"
  • "When is someone going to train me?"
  • "Who dropped the ball?"
  • "When are we going to find good people?"
  • "Why can't they communicate better?"
  • "When is that department going to its job right?'
  • "Who's going to solve the problem?"
If so, then your organization may need QBQ. In his book, Miller shows how just a little personal accountability can eliminate this epidemic of blame, complaining, and procrastination.

Instead of constantly asking Why? and When? and Who?, people need to ask the "Question Behind the Question." When this happens organizations prosper immensely as problematic employees suddenly morph into problem solvers, service improves, teamwork gels, and people suddenly start adapting to change instead of tripping over it.

One of my favorite parts of the book is where Miller recounts going out on a consulting job and asking employees, "If you could change anything here, what would it be?" The replies list the usual suspects: management, sales, support, forms, processes. But oddly enough, never does anyone answer with the one thing they could in fact change today.

In short, QBQ is a fast and meaningful "must-read" for everyone in your company... starting with yourself.

Naturally, we believe that The Power of TQ is the best book ever done on success, personal performance, and intentional excellence.

That said, we also recognize the fact that we can't cover everything in exhaustive detail, nor do we have a lock on all of the good ideas.

With that in mind, and in conjunction with Amazon.com, here's a brief reading list from some of the best minds in the field:
